‘it still burns’

 it still burns – 2020

‘it still burns’ is a visual exploration of the disruption and discomfort that accompany flare ups of old emotions, and the uncertainty of how they will appear - as a distant flash on the horizon, or a full-blown explosion that blocks out the light of daily life. The shock of an old grief, or love, or disappointment, when it re-emerges, can affect us as wholly as if it were happening again for the very first time. Out of thin air, these things come to overwhelm our senses, even when no one else can sense that they are there.

In our inaugural show, 'Interior, Exterior,' Sala Salon presents 23 artists answering the questions: What is the boundary between interior and exterior? Is it flesh? Walls? Imagination? Virtual realms? What happens when we collapse this boundary? How might the interior landscape resemble the exterior and vice versa?

These questions are fundamental to Sala Salon which employs the tradition of the French 'Salon' to bring together emerging artists and foster communication in a curious environment amidst an often pre-determined London art world.
